Jessica Blissitt is a freelance writer, photographer and  journalist from Birmingham, but she is currently located in Salford, UK.

Currently finishing her master's in Broadcast Journalism, Jess has written for notable platforms, such as The Liverpool Echo, Coventry Live, and Manchester Evening News. 

Most recently, Jess has completely placements at Global and BBC News. 

Formerly the Head of Social Media at The Reading Corner, Jess now dedicates her time between her role as Communications Assistant at the University of Salford, and newsreading for Gaydio.

Northern Writing School author launches new children's book - Northern School of Writing

Northern Writing School novelist Marek Bekerman is celebrating the launch of his first children’s book, Sophie and Tempus.


Sophie, the daughter of a small town mayor, finds adventure and adversity as she seeks to restore harmony to a town where people are mysteriously effected by the deafening chimes of the town clock.


People say the clock tower is haunted, but Sophie ignores them, climbing it at midnight to stop the chimes.

Winners of 2025 Create Student Awards announced

Alongside a fabulous dinner, nine awards were up for grabs at the renowned Lowry Hotel, and the lucky winners were recognised for their hard work at Salford and beyond.

University partners with MACFEST for return of Muslim Arts Awards

MACFEST have created a national contest for all Muslim artists over the age of 18. Eligible artists can submit up to two pieces of artwork for any of the following categories - painting, calligraphy, drawing and photography. Artists can submit up to two pieces of work.

New music journalism website launched by Salford alumnus

Soledad, a site designed to foster a new funding pathway for music journalists in Manchester, is the brainchild of BA Journalism (Multimedia) alumnus James Young, Charlie Stanley and Oli Wilson, the founder of Manchester's Beyond the Music conference and festival.

Maxwell Hall: Digital archive reveals unseen photos from venue's most historic concerts

Unseen photographs, posters and other concert memorabilia have been revealed in the new Maxwell Hall Digital Archive.

New photos of the likes of U2 and The Smiths have been put in the public domain for the first time with the archive unearthing a treasure trove of items from Salford's musical past.

Jessica Blissitt meets with the University's Archivist Alexandra Mitchell and Salford alumnus Evan Hurst who pulled the archive together following a public callout for donations in April 2024.

The University of Salford would like to thank the Students Union as they were a valuable contributor to the development of the archive by allowing the team to have access to archived student newspapers and relevant gig ephemera.

Salford alumni trio shortlisted at 2025 Commercial Radio Awards

BA Journalism: Broadcast alumna Sophie Green has been shortlisted for Newcomer of the Year. Sophie graduated in 2023 and has since freelanced for Global, BBC Tees, and now works as a Reporter for Hits Radio North East.
